A New LP From THE AVALANCHES?

According to Pedestrian.tv, The Avalanches are putting the finishing touches on their long awaited follow-up to 2001's Since I Left You, an album that contained approximately 3500 samples, most impressive of which was the first ever legally licensed Madonna sample. Largely the reason Modular Records is on the map today, The Avalanches made one of the best dance albums of this decade and the anticipation for the sophomore LP is of magnum proportions.

The Melbourne, Australia-based electronic collective released a statement in early 2007 about the new album - "It's so fuckin' party you will die, much more hip-hop than you might expect, and while there is still no accurate estimated time of arrival, we're sure you're gonna love it when it arrives ... It's ended up sounding like the next logical step to "Since", we just had to go around in a big circle to get back to where we belong. And one day when you least expect it you'll wake up and the sample fairy will have left it under your pillow."

The unconfirmed, tentative title of the new disc is Inactivity, and it may hit shelves in early 2009. Cross your fingers!

THE BODIES OBTAINED
From the Top of My Tree

The Bodies Obtained are extremely elusive. In fact, there is yet to be a known photograph of the band. They come from Detroit and find great influence in the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Brian Eno, Fad Gadget and The Residents. Their debut album, From the Top of My Tree hits shelves November 25th via Mute/Finding You Attractive. Nothing more to report really as no one knows who the hell they are. Check out the music...

LYKKE LI & EL PERRO DEL MAR
La Blogotheque's Take Away Shows

While on a tour stop in San Francisco, fellow Swedes Lykke Li and El Perro del Mar teamed up with La Blogotheque for a series of "Take Away Shows". Here we have Lykke Li doing "Dance Dance Dance" and El Perro del Mar doing "Somebody's Baby". These videos make me homesick for San Francisco, as they were literally shot right around the corner from my old apartment.

I love La Blogotheque's cinéma vérité shooting style, which allows you to see the artists in a realistic way, performing acoustic or accapella versions of their songs.

Check out more videos at La Blogotheque.

MARTIN GORE DJ Set
Tonight at Hiro Ballroom

Martin Gore of Depeche Mode is DJing at Hiro Ballroom tonight! I had no idea and will probably not make it, but I'm sure it will be awesome. Tickets are $15.

Meanwhile, a new Depeche Mode album is tentatively scheduled for a spring 2009 release. The band is rumored to have been working on new material at Gore's home studio in Santa Barbara last May. The new disc is being produced by Ben Hillier.

THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART - 'Everything With You'

I love The Pains of Being Pure at Heart! The Brooklyn indie pop band are hard at work on their debut full length, slated for release in early 2009. In the meantime, they dish up the new "Everything With You" 7", hitting shops this fall. But I have the new track for you right now. Check it out.

Todd P's Midsummer Party at The Yard

About two weeks ago I had the privilige of attending Todd P's Midsummer Party at The Yard in Carroll Gardens (Brooklyn). I saw an astounding 15 under the radar bands and got to see John Norris (of MTV fame) up close and personal. The mini-fest was held on the canal bank at The Yard in Brooklyn, featuring amazing performances from Ponytail, Oneida, Titus Andronicus, Shy Child, Vivian Girls, Knyfe Hyts, Crystal Antlers, Abe Vigoda, Telepathe, High Places, and many more!

The scorching day by the canal was barely saved by a cooling breeze that made the heat almost bearable. It turned out to be a fantastic summer day, packed with loads of new talent. Todd P is a hero to Brooklyn right now, constantly providing us with new, cutting edge artists in venues like Market Hotel, Silent Barn, Death By Audio, and Bodega. Here he has captured the essence of what is bubbling under, providing a vastly entertaining day of indie music by the water in Brooklyn.

GRACE JONES - Hurricane

The original new wave, art/disco diva Grace Jones is back and she's about to release her first album in 19 years (not including her two unreleased albums in the 90's). Hurricane, scheduled for an October 27th release, features an all-star production team led by Ivor Guest, including Brian Eno, Tricky, and Sly & Robbie. Jones made her return to the stage last month when she performed a two hour set at the Massive Attack-curated Meltdown Festival in London.

The first single from the forthcoming album is the haunting and twisted "Corporate Cannibal". The track also has a mind-altering new video, directed by Nick Hooker. Check it out...

Hurricane tentative tracklist:

"Corporate Cannibal"
"The Key to Funky"
"Hurricane"
"Devil in My Life"
"This Is Life"
"Love You to Life"

TV ON THE RADIO - Dear Science,

Pitchfork reports that TV on the Radio are prepping the much anticipated release of their fourth full-length album, the follow-up to Return to Cookie Mountain (2006).

Dear Science, will hit stores in North America on September 23rd via Interscope. I'm very curious to see what these avant rockers have been cooking up in the last two years, as "Wolf Like Me" (from Cookie) remains one of the greatest tracks of this decade.
