GIANA FACTORY - Trippin

Giana Factory are three girls from Copenhagen who just released the Bloody Game ep on October 12th. It's worth noting that the trio includes lead singer Loui Foo, sister of Sharin Foo of The Raveonettes. But the sound at work here has absolutely no other relation to The Raves. Here we have dark romantic electro pop. The new video for "Trippin" was directed by the OhhMaryMary team.

PAPERCUTS - Future Primitive

San Francisco band Papercuts paid a visit to Yours Truly recently and they performed their recent single "Future Primitive". In my opinion, this is one of the very best tracks of the year. Watch the performance and grab the mp3 below.

WARPAINT - Exquisite Corpse

Warpaint are three girls from Los Angeles who are putting out some stunning new music. Minimalist, dreamy, psychedelic, lo-fi canyon-gaze would pretty much describe the sound at work here. A gorgeous new video for the track "Stars" emerged today. I wish I could just project a loop of this clip on my wall all night! Also listen for the beautiful track "Billie Holiday", now in heavy rotation on The Sky Report Radio. The new ep Exquisite Corpse is available now on Manimal Vinyl.

LE CORPS MINCE DE FRANCOISE - Something Golden

Le Corps Mince de Francoise, or LCMDF for short, are an all-girl electro group from Helsinki. Their latest single is "Something Golden", taken from their forthcoming full-length, due in December on Kitsune. The track will also be including on the Kitsune Maison 8 compilation.

MARIONETTES OF SATAN

Marionettes of Satan simply bring it. And their performance tonight at our unofficial CMJ party will be no exception. Their blistering sound and unabashed stage antics will not be lost on the Bushwick crowd this evening. Fuck the playoffs, come experience some real shit. Marionettes of Satan are sure to deliver. See you there!

Tonight - The Sky Report Unofficial CMJ Showcase

MeKaniKdolls

MeKaniKdolls are going to be awesome tonight at our unofficial CMJ party. All I have to say is, just come! An easy $4 and a PBR will get you in the mood for a wide array of underground Bushwick music.

EL PERRO DEL MAR - Change of Heart

I've been a fan of El Perro Del Mar since her first record back in 2006. Her unique blend of "melancholic lo-fi twee pop", as they describe her on wikipedia, has always managed to grab me when I'm not paying attention. The new single "Change of Heart" is one of her best compositions to date. It comes from the new LP Love Is Not Pop. Check out the new video for the track below.

postMagic

postMagic are brand new. The latest underground sound coming from Bushwick. This three-piece came together by way of Northeast Kingdom and Burlington, VT. Tonight they play their second ever live show at our unofficial CMJ party. Check out their brand new track "Buzz Around You", streaming now on myspace.

YES ALEXANDER

Yes Alexander has been a longtime favorite of The Sky Report and now she's playing our unofficial CMJ showcase tonight! Her work with The Casual Lust piqued our interest and her work with Blue Sky Black Death completely won us over. Now she has some new solo work streaming on myspace. Check out the stunning new track "Heart Broke". It is guaranteed to grab you.

CALLERS

Tonight Callers play our unofficial CMJ party and we can't believe we actually landed them! The immensely talented trio of vocalist Sara Lucas, guitarist Ryan Seaton, and drummer Don Godwin spent last spring touring with Here We Go Magic and released their debut album Fortune on Western Vinyl. The band plays tonight at Tandem at 8:30. Don't miss out.

New COLD CAVE Video - Love Comes Close

-via Stereogum

From the album Love Comes Close, due November 3rd on Matador. More from Cold Cave at myspace.

CMJ Marathon Kicks Off Today!

And if you're like me, you'll be doing it rogue-style. If you don't have a badge, just get to the shows really early. Nine times out of ten you'll always get in. Or go totally renegade and catch shows that are off the beaten path...like ours. Everything you need to know about the "official" side of CMJ can be found at the "official" website.

VIVIAN GIRLS - When I'm Gone

Vivian Girls recently released their sophomore LP Everything Goes Wrong, which is a notably darker, slightly more mature effort than the debut. Frankie Rose's absence is definitely felt, but in a sense this album feels grittier and more abstract without her. The girls have filmed a new video for the track "When I'm Gone". Check it out...

The Very Best

-via Yours Truly

The Very Best is the collaborative effort of Esau Mwamwaya (Malawi) and Radioclit (London) and their unique pan-African sound is taking the world by storm. In 2008 the duo released a critically acclaimed mixtape, which heavily sampled M.I.A among others. On their official debut, Warm Heart of Africa, The Very Best again enlist the help of M.I.A., as well as Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend.

The folks at Yours Truly caught up with The Very Best at a show in San Francisco, where they discussed the process of making music. The new album is available now everywhere.

PASS KONTROL Debut New Songs

Pass Kontrol are one of the headliners of our unofficlal CMJ party this Wednesday and, coincidentally, they have unveiled some new material. The Bushwick band recently premiered the new track "New Hope City" on Myspace, along with another new one, "Twins". But no one knows Pass Kontrol if they haven't seen them live. Don't miss their performance at Tandem on Wednesday at 11:30PM.

ATLAS SOUND - Logos

Today Bradford Cox releases the 2nd LP under his side project moniker Atlas Sound and I feel it is poised to score high on many year-end lists. Logos was originally leaked in its unfinished form back in 2008. Cox was so outraged by the leak that he vowed never to officially release the album. Well, thank god he did, because it is well worth the release.
"Cox on Logos: "My last album was a bedroom laptop type thing. Very introverted. Logos is an album that was recorded all over the world. It's not about me. There are collaborations with other musicians. The lyrics are not autobiographical. The view is a lot more panoramic and less close-up. I became bored with introspection. This was also the case with Deerhunter's Microcastle LP, which was written during the same period.""
Listen to the standout track "Quick Canal", featuring Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier on vocals.

FAN-TAN

Fan-Tan are one of the rising Brooklyn bands playing our unofficial CMJ party on Wednesday. They recently released the Bars In Window ep and are also playing the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on November 5th.
"We guess we're into totally epic synth pop lately, because Fan-Tan's big and sprawling melodies are hitting us kind of right. Listening to this, we really wish we were in a massive rainstorm and there was a camera shooting down on us from a crane, because then we could outstretch our hands and lift them high to heavens while shouting a roar that's equal parts joy and pain. That's what Fan-Tan makes us want to do." - ohmyrockness.com

Don't take our word for it. Check out a handful of tunes from Fan-Tan at Myspace.

PURE ECSTASY

Pure Ecstasy are a few guys from Austin making beautiful lo-fi, beach-fuzz music and they definitely live up to their name. "You're In It Now" is one of the most gorgeous songs I've heard all year. And "Easy" is just, well...pure reverb ecstasy. The band features two members from Silver Pines, another great band well worth checking out.

FRANKIE ROSE - Thee Only One

Frankie Rose, drummer for Crystal Stilts and formerly of Vivian Girls, has stepped up to bat with her first solo effort, the new single "Thee Only One".
"Ms. Rose's music is haunted by the ghosts of 60s girl group, Brill Building, and 80s and 90s noise pop in equal measure. It's a spooky, lovely sound -- Frankie's ethereal yet affectation-free voice swirling in a sea of church-like harmonies over a bed of tambourines, bells, and propulsive drumming. Recalling in spirit such groups as The Aislers Set and Black Tambourine, Frankie's music is both timeless and immediate, both deeply personal and completely universal."
Brooklyn Vegan reports that Rose has left Crystal Stilts to fully embark on her solo project. She will also be drumming for Dum Dum Girls when they play CMJ in New York this week.

Frankie Rose - Thee Only One [mp3]

Backed by her new band The Outs, Frankie Rose will debut her new material at these upcoming gigs:

Nov 5 The WOODSER - Brooklyn
Nov 13 THE BLACK CAT with CRYSTAL STILTS - Washington DC
Nov 14 THE BELL HOUSE with CRYSTAL STILTS - Brooklyn

THE RAVEONETTES Perform Acoustic Set for Shock Sessions

I've already "raved" about the new Raveonettes album In and Out of Control, now watch the duo strip down the new songs beautifully in this four song acoustic set, featuring "Suicide", "Gone Forever", Oh I Buried You Today" and "Last Dance".

THE SOFT PACK - Fences

The Soft Pack (formerly The Muslims) are a Southern California garage quartet of 20-something guys who are gaining a lot of mileage from this fresh new cover of the Phoenix track "Fences".

FOOL'S GOLD

Fool's Gold are a revolving collective of musicians primarily based in Los Angeles, anchored by bass player Luke Top and guitarist Lewis Pesacov. Deeply influenced by world music, the roster of musicians includes members of The Fall, We Are Scientists, Glasser, Foreign Born, and Cass McComb's band, as well as the Grammy nominated Argentinean pop star Erica Garcia.

The self-titled debut is available now on IAMSOUND. Check out the fun new video for "Surprise Hotel"...

COLD CAVE - Love Comes Close

Cold Cave are a quartet by way of Philadelphia and New York, led by hardcore punk musician Wesley Eisold (American Nightmare/Some Girls/Give Up the Ghost). Rounding out the band are former members of Xiu Xiu, Parts and Labor, and Prurient. I've instantly fallen in love with Cold Cave's beautifully haunting synthpop.
"Love Comes Close instantly sold out when it was released in August and will be re-issued by Matador on November 3rd. The warm, rich synth pop sounds are laced with equal parts of romance and nihilism. Cold Cave is possibly the only band ever to have been compared to both Erasure and Whitehouse."

PHENOMENAL HANDCLAP BAND - "15 to 20"

Thanks to Tom Lawson for tipping me off to this recent live session from Phenomenal Handclap Band.
"The band...performed "15 to 20" for a recent Live on KEXP Session from the Cutting Room Studios in NYC. Dubbing themselves "The Electronic Handclap Band" for this session, they played without guitarists and did a full-on electronic set with never-heard-before versions of the song."
Check out the stripped down version of "15 to 20":
