DJ WOOL - 'The Star of East Berlin'

DJ Wool, founding member of NYC electro-punk outfit The Glass, will release Gangsters & Models on September 5th via Pale Music. The new track 'The Star of East Berlin' is a hot, minimalist jam and I'm totally digging it. And if you happen to live in Berlin, don't miss the launch party at Pickwick on Saturday, September 6th.

Gangsters & Models will be available at Beatport on September 5th.

Underground Alert - PASS KONTROL

Introducing Pass Kontrol, an underground Brooklyn duo, who already have a loyal following in both Bushwick and Berlin. The band's impressive versatility is best experienced live. And if you're in NY, don't miss their next show, February 23 at the Bushwick Starr. The guys made a special video invite to the show, with a special performance on a Brooklyn rooftop.

To experience the more ambient side of Pass Kontrol, stream a handful of tracks below.

DIGITALISM - 'Idealistic'

'Idealistic' is the new single from German electro duo DIGITALISM. If you haven't heard the debut album "Idealism", it is one of the best electronic albums of the year, right up there with the 2007 debuts from SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO and JUSTICE. The new single is available September 17 and will feature remixes from WHOMADEWHO, A-TRAK, and HYSTEREO.

DIGITALISM - "Idealism" 77%

I am in love with "Idealism", the debut LP from German remix duo DIGITALISM. The album, released in N. America on Astralwerks, is an electro-punk opus. Things get started with the epic 1-2-punch of sinister stomper 'Magnets' and spaced-out synth odyssey 'Zdarlight', before busting out into a string of amazing electro-punk bangers 'I Want I Want', 'Idealistic', 'Digitalism in Cairo' and the current hit 'Pogo'. 'Digitalism in Cairo' is quite possibly the most inventive cover I've heard in light years, a vast reimagination of THE CURE's post-punk classic 'Fire In Cairo'.

The second half of "Idealism" keeps the pace in check, finding just enough quiet time ('Moonlight'/'Jupiter Approach') to balance out the otherwise bangin' sci-fi party before closing things out with the exceptional final track 'Echoes'.

Highly recommended!!!

IAMX @ The Mercury Lounge, NYC

Donned in a sparkling top hat, Chris Corner embodied what could have been a scene from the film "Velvet Goldmine" when he took the stage with his band IAMX at The Mercury Lounge last night. Drawing inspiration from a number of sources, particularly David Bowie, 70's glam, and German cabaret, Corner's stage antics nearly overshadow his powerful voice. Nearly.

Corner, also a founding member and lead singer of SNEAKERPIMPS, has a natural stage presence, one of true rock star. Whether it be strutting the stage in quick and spastic motions or operatically howling over the bombastic rocktronics, IAMX certainly encompasses his talents.

Check out some of IAMX's best songs here.

ELLEN ALLIEN + MISS KITTIN + LAUREN FLAX - Studio B

I haven't much to say about the show since after waiting an hour and a half in line until almost 1:30 in the morning (and I was on the guest list), I gave up and went to a bar to get drunk. The scene outside Studio B was utter chaos! You would have thought Madonna and Prince were doing a double bill inside. All who had bought tickets online and those who were on the guest list had to wait in a sluggish line that almost wrapped around the block. NOT COOL AT ALL!

But, since I was so excited about this show and have nothing to report, check out These Rocks Pop for a taste of what was experienced on the inside of the club on Saturday night.

Please Studio B, have your shit together this Saturday, as I really don't want to miss LO-FI-FNK, DATAROCK and THE PRESETS.

ugh...
