ATP NY Underway, Live Radio Stream

All Tomorrow's Parties New York is well underway. For those of you (like me) who are sad you couldn't make it upstate for the weekend to catch the incredible lineup, you can still listen to many of the bands performances via a live stream at WFMU.org. Expected highlights of the weekend include Harmonia, Low, Yo La Tengo, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dinosaur Jr., Mogwai, Fuck Buttons, and of course My Bloody Valentine (who also play Roseland Ballroom in NYC on Monday night).

In related news...

Harmonia, the German krautrock supergroup that was formed in the 70's by Michael Rother (Kraftwerk/Neu!) and Hans-Joachim Roedelius/Dieter Mobius (Cluster), are playing (le) Poisson Rouge on Monday night. White Williams will open the show.

Yo La Tengo have released the new compilation They Shoot, We Score collects compositions made for four different films, including Junebug and Shortbus. You can purchase the compilation here.

WHITE WILLIAMS Releases New Videos for 'New Violence', 'Violator'

In conjunction with the recent European release of his debut LP Smoke, White Williams has released a pair of new videos for the album. The first is the awesome TV carnage version of "New Violence", a video of spliced together clips from 80's action shows. Not completely safe for work, but so much fun!

The latest is for the track "Violator". A simpler video, with super cool graphics and shots of the super cute WW doing things like talking on a funny phone, looking through binoculars, and holding black balloons. Not sure what it all means, but it goes very nicely with the track.

Smoke is available in the US via Tigerbeat6.

CMJ Report: White Williams

White Williams played the CMJ showcase at Bowery Ballroom last night, surely winning over new fans with his nostalgic 80's-electro-vibe sound. Backed with a band consisting of an electric guitar, bass, two Apple laptops and Mr. White himself on sampler and keyboards, the live incarnation succeeds by the fine use of simplicity, accompanied by a very well put together visual montage backdrop.

Of his current single 'New Violence', the Village Voice recently had quite a few kind words to describe it: "But “New Violence”, which you can hear right now, is the key. Like Blondie’s (correction: Debbie Harry's) “Rush Rush” with the bass dialed, or the Strokes with rhythm, or post-punk if post-punk never happened, “New Violence” pulls off the icy feat of being an irresistible song that doesn’t care whether you resist it or not."

The single is awesome. If you haven't heard it yet, seek it out.

The man behind the moniker is Joe Williams, a fresh-faced 23 year-old who conjures the words cute and sweet. You are sure to hear more from White Williams very soon, as the debut disk "Smoke" is set for a November 6th release and is available now on iTunes.

WHITE WILLIAMS - "Smoke"

Joe Williams, aka WHITE WILLIAMS is about to blow up huge. After touring with DAN DEACON and GIRL TALK for the latter part of the summer, he has gained quite the momentum via the blogosphere as he prepares to release his debut album "Smoke" on November 6th. And the fun doesn't stop there, as he will join BATTLES for five dates in the days following the album's release. If that weren't enough to get some hype brewing, White Williams will also be on hand for the CMJ Music Marathon, sharing a bill with DEERHUNTER, Dan Deacon, NO AGE, and PONYTAIL on October 17th at the Bowery Ballroom, and yes...I will certainly be there.

The first single from "Smoke" is the infectious 'New Violence', which is now available in digital form on iTunes.
