New PORTISHEAD - Chase the Tear

Portishead follow-up their stunning Third LP with this one-off single that is so good, I'm completely taken aback. You can buy the track for 99 cents at 7digital - all proceeds go to Amnesty International. I think it would be money well spent. Watch the band perform the track live in a studio below.

PORTISHEAD - 'Magic Doors'

Another trippy new video from Portishead, who in my book get Comeback of the Year. "Magic Doors" is the 3rd single and video taken from the album Third, one of my favorite LP's of 2008.

PORTISHEAD - 'The Rip'

Portishead have not only made the comeback album of the year (so far, anyway), but Third is also one of the very best album's of the first half of 2008. After multiple listens, the songs grow on you in a very subtle, but very powerful way. One of the best tracks on the album now has a video. "The Rip" comes in animated form; a bizarre video for an absolutely gorgeous song.

NEW VIDEO FRIDAY (Dark Electro Edition)

At long last, new Portishead...

Portishead - Machine Gun

Telepathique are from Sao Paulo, Brazil. They sound like what would happen if Bonde do Role (pre Marina's departure) were to make a late night club record.

Telepathique - Eu Gosto

The new Presets video is what I would definitely define as homoerotic. Not the most complex video in the world, but I definitely like the song a lot better than their previous single "My People".

Kleerup produced Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat". Fans of that track will definitely hear a similarity in production here. Titiyo is Neneh Cherry's little sister. The intricate yarn that is Swedish pop music continues to unfurl.

I love Crystal Castles music, but this video is flat out weird and momentarily disturbing. WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK.

PORTISHEAD - 'Machine Gun'

Portishead are back and in a big way. After previewing the new album Third I can comfortably say that the trip-hop pioneers haven't lost their edge in all these years past, but have actually matured and created a stunning new album. Third will be released in the US on April 29 via Mercury Records, preceded by the first single "Machine Gun", available now. You can purchase the "Machine Gun" mp3 at 7Digital.com.

This limited edition box set is also available to the first 10,000 people who snag it from the official Portishead website.

Coachella Rumors...

As tipped by ProductShopNYC, you can now add Radiohead, The Verve and Spiritualized to the growing list of bands being heavily rumored to appear at Coachella 2008 April 25-27. Check out the post at PSNYC, which also includes their list of the 50 best albums of 1997.

Here are the strongest of the rumored acts so far:

Radiohead
My Bloody Valentine
The Verve
Portishead
Spiritualized

Coachella Rumors...

Taking it all with a grain of salt of course, rumors surrounding the 2008 Coachella Music & Arts Festival have officially begun, with seminal shoegazer band My Bloody Valentine and groundbreaking 90's trip-hop act Portishead already widely speculated as having confirmed. It was recently announced that the festival will be held April 25-27 in Indio, California.

According to a recent article in Entertainment Weekly, My Bloody Valentine are definitely going to reunite at Coachella. And another recent article on thedailyswarm.com states that Portishead have indeed already confirmed. There is still a long way to go and the official line-up won't even be revealed until January or February, but other bands also currently being mentioned as rumored to appear are R.E.M., Death Cab For Cutie, The Screaming Trees, The White Stripes and Radiohead.

PORTISHEAD - The Wait is Nearly Over

After ten long years, the third Portishead album is finally almost here. Geoff Barrow recently had this to say about the new album on the Portishead blog:

"we went to london for a fews days to finish up. we worked in molko 9 back in ~Bristol now working on some art work and getting the live stuff together. i think one more day messing about with it and it will be done. then into the wonderful world of mastering"

Portishead are also curating All Tomorrow's Parties in Britain December 7-9, with a line-up that includes Silver Apples, Aphex Twin, Boris, Autolux, Madlib, and Thurston Moore.

SLOW BURNING LIGHTS

SLOW BURNING LIGHTS is the brand spankin' new project from CASUAL LUST vocalist Yes Alexander and the dark hip-hop outfit BLUE SKY BLACK DEATH. The result is absolutely gorgeous, somewhere in the vein of PORTISHEAD and MASSIVE ATTACK, but not at all 90's retro. Make sense? No? Who cares...it's damn good.

They may only have one track available for your listening pleasure as of yet, but it hints at what is to come - a full-length album rumored to hit the streets in April.

Please stop what you're doing right now and go listen to 'Secrets'.
