Shocking Pinks is essentially New Zealand bred Nick Harte and his debut DFA release, simply titled Shocking Pinks, is well worth checking out. Aching vocals reminiscent of Elliott Smith, accompanied by a raw synth-rock sound, slowly draw you in. Repeated listens are essential, but the rewards are worth it. The album is basically two earlier albums compiled into one long disc, with the rougher stuff (good rough) saved for the second half. The current single, and standout track 'End of the World' utilizes a very simple, yet effective synth-pad. Check out the video...
