The Sky Report Turns 1

A week ago today, The Sky Report had it's one year anniversary...and I forgot! But we got a great gift just in time for the occasion...a nomination for Best Music Blog at the Hey Nielson/Billboard.com Best Music Blog contest. The competition is incredibly stiff, so if you have a minute, please click the link and vote for The Sky Report.

Thanks to everyone who reads this blog. It has been very motivating to see that people actually read what I have to say about music.

Also, I'll be DJing on my laptop Thursdays in Bushwick (current or former stomping ground of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, White Rabbits, Amy Winehouse, Santogold) at the new Northeast Kingdom downstairs lounge. Every Thursday from 11-2...L Train to Jefferson...18 Wyckoff @ Troutman...if you live in NYC, come by and say hi.

And please take part in the Best Album of 2007 poll at the bottom of the scroll.

Thanks
Scot

NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB - "Fantasic Playroom"

Though it doesn't officially come out until August 28th, you can digitally purchase the debut full length from NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB on iTunes now. The album is titled "Fantastic Playroom" and the first single will be the re-release of 'Ice Cream', not to be confused with the MUSCLES summer jam 'Ice Cream'.

NYPC also have a remix of AMY WINEHOUSE's 'Tears Dry On Their Own' floating around. The band calls it "...a very danceable Grace Jones-esque style workout..." Sounds fun. Anybody heard it yet?

Countdown to Coachella part 8 - 2 Days...

Can you feel the heat yet? It's gonna be a hot one at Coachella this year.

Friday - high 99, low 71
Saturday - high 101, low 73
Sunday - high 97, low 71

Have fun and stay hydrated.

SPANK ROCK
To be honest, I don't know a ton about SPANK ROCK. But I do know that the beats are dirty, the rhymes are nasty, and everyone freaks out whenever they hear the "Lindsay Lohan" song.

LILY ALLEN
Lily canceled the majority of her current tour, but chose to still do Coachella. So I guess that makes this a rare appearance for the young British pop/reggae star. I would totally stroll by to catch part of her set. The music is the perfect fun-lite that hot summer days were made for.

AMY WINEHOUSE
I would totally be up on this shit if I was at Coachella this year. Her voice is fantastic when she's not too drunk. She is backed by a large band that really helps with the Phil Spector-like sound. But most of all, Amy is a walking drama waiting to unfold. Even if she is drunk it would make for great entertainment. My guess is that she will be amazing and a highlight of the weekend.
