CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG (ft. BECK) - Heaven Can Wait

French actress/singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, daughter of Serge, has essentially written an entire album inspired by the frequent MRI's she had following a water skiing accident in 2007. The album, titled IRM (French for MRI), was produced and co-written by Beck, who also makes an appearance in the very impressive new video for the first single "Heaven Can Wait".

IRM is due January 26th via Because/Elektra.

New SEBASTIEN TELLIER Video - "Roche"

In direct contrast to our weather here in New York, French electro crooner Sebastien Tellier plays his grand piano on a sunny beach as feminine lips sing in the golden air around him. It's nice to have this new video as an escape to the snow mounds outside, but I still wonder...will winter never end?

PONI HOAX - Images of Sigrid

Poni Hoax are from France and have recently released their 2nd album, Images of Sigrid on Tiger Sushi Records. The first single "Antibodies" is the perfect summation of their sound - brooding disco with a dash of early 80's new wave cynicism. The band most recently released a new 12" for the track "Hypercommunication". Get Images of Sigrid at Tiger Sushi Records.

I'll admit that the music video for "Antibodies" is a bit underwhelming, but at least you can check out the song.

SEBASTIEN TELLIER - 'Divine'

Sebastien Tellier's new album Sexuality is reportedly an 11-track meditation on love-making. Produced by Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the album features songs like "Sexual Sportswear" and the super catchy new single "Divine". Sexuality is available now through recordmakers.com or on iTunes.

YELLE - Pop-Up

It has taken me some time to get into the funky French electro pop of Yelle. But the video for "Je Veux Te Voir" has me hooked. Here, the gorgeous and quirky Yelle struts and poses before leading a couple pals in a wildly colorful cardio workout. Not only does Yelle looking jarringly sexy, but she really sells a song that had previously been lost on me. Let the French pop revolution begin!

The album Pop-Up was released last year internationally but will hit these shores on April 1st.

THE TEENAGERS - 'Make It Happen' etc.

French dirty-cutesy-hedonistic-electro trio THE TEENAGERS may very well be the most hyped act of 2007 and they still don't even have a proper album out yet. But, according to my favorite west coast blog missingtoof.com, that is about to change. The boys at the toof hint at a full length album to soon be released on Merok Records and they also offer up a trio of exclusive new tracks, all rumoured to be on the highly anticipated debut LP. Still no word on exactly when it will be physically released, but I for one cannot sleep, anxiously awaiting its arrival.

The new tracks - 'Make It Happen', 'Self Love', and 'Tiger' are all available at missingtoof.com. Go there now.

Also worth checking out: The Teenagers remixes where you can check out their remixes of SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO, THE BLACK GHOSTS, AIR, AU REVOIR SIMONE, and THE ENEMY.

DARKEL

It's taken me awhile to get acquainted with the solo debut of DARKEL, one half of the French electro duo AIR. The self-titled album was released way back in September 2006 and I have only just given it a spin for the first time. Wow. I love it so much better than the latest Air album. Check out the album's lead-off track 'Be My Friend'.

Countdown to Coachella part 7 - 3 Days...

The set times have been revealed, and all I have to say is the Saturday line-up in the Sahara Tent is like a wet dream. MSTRKRFT, BUSY P & DJ MEHDI, JUSTICE, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, and THE RAPTURE all back to back to back. Wow!

MSTRKRFT
MSTRKRFT are the electro offspring of the now defunct rockers DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979. It's kind of like if THE WHITE STRIPES turned into DAFT PUNK, or something like that. Point is, guitars or synths, these guys rock.

BUSY P
As the owner and main producer of Ed Banger Records, French house meister BUSY P is the hottest shit right now. Have you heard the killer Ed Rec Volumes 1 & 2? Download them on iTunes now! This guy is at the center of it all.

DJ MEHDI
Another French dude, DJ Mehdi is also part of the Ed Banger crew. His recent album "Lucky Boy" is a hip-hop electro party in itself. Check out the single "I Am Somebody", featuring CHROMEO.

UFFIE - Pop the Glock

I may be really late in the game on this, but I just had to mention UFFIE here. 'Pop the Glock' is some hot breakbeat-electro shit. BIG STEREO wrote this great piece about UFFIE. Now I just can't wait to get my hands on the SebastiAn remix.

KAVINSKY

So the guys over at MISSINGTOOF have been turning me on to a lot of new shit lately and they have suddenly become one of my favorite music sites. Not only do they have excellent taste in remix/electro/DJ what have you, but their site looks fucking awesome. Please visit them now and often.

One of my favorite missingtoof discoveries is KAVINSKY, an electrohead from France with an unmistakable influence from DAFT PUNK. Swirling in a sea of buzz with other hot acts like THE TEENAGERS, PONEY PONEY, SEBASTIAN and TEAM RECORDER, KAVINSKY is bound to make it big. Even current electro-masters JUSTICE chimed in on KAVINSKY'S MySpace page to compare the hype around him to that of THE CLASH back in the day. Now that's saying something.

My favorite blog in the universe BIG STEREO also wrote about KAVINSKY nearly a year ago when the "Teddyboy EP" was released. How do they do it? Always ahead of the game.

A new KAVINSKY EP- "1986" -will be released in March on Record Makers. And if you're lucky enough to live in Australia, check out the KAVINSKY/SEBASTIAN tour, also in March.

KLANGUAGE - "The Message"

A girl and two guys comprise the French electro set that is KLANGUAGE. I've been obsessed for weeks with their track "Priceless Things". "The Message" is nearly as good. And I can't wait to hear their newest single, "All This Time".

I'm sooo intrigued. Every track (so far) sounds different. And I love the throwback to the minimalist-bass heavy sound of early-90's trip-hop/house.

Check out the only decipherable info about KLANGUAGE on the internet at their MySpace site:

New Music 2007 - AIR

Pitchfork reports today that 'Pocket Symphony', the forthcoming album from French electro duo AIR will be released by Astralwerks on March 6, 2007. Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck) produces.

I will never forget their sunset performance at Coachella 2005 - simply breathtaking.
