CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG (ft. BECK) - Heaven Can Wait

French actress/singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, daughter of Serge, has essentially written an entire album inspired by the frequent MRI's she had following a water skiing accident in 2007. The album, titled IRM (French for MRI), was produced and co-written by Beck, who also makes an appearance in the very impressive new video for the first single "Heaven Can Wait".

IRM is due January 26th via Because/Elektra.

I Woke Up and It Was 1994...

Maybe it's just me, but these videos by Jay Reatard and Marnie Stern take me back to when Beck's "Loser" was the hottest shit on earth. While these tracks are awesome, they seem to foreshadow a new retro renaissance, one that I wasn't exactly expecting.

Outside Lands Fest Kicks Off in San Francisco

The inaugural Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival gets underway Friday, boasting a very herb-friendly lineup and seemingly tailor-made for its location at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Radiohead and Beck headline the first night, which also includes The Black Keys, Cold War Kids, and Black Mountain. Then things get really "herbal" over the next couple of days. I mean, Tom Petty, Jack Johnson, and Ben Harper? Expect a lot of mandles, drum circles, and cannabis clouds. But some highlights are indeed tucked in between the tye-died lines. Liars will bring their apocalyptic madness on Saturday, while Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings will blow minds with their stunning soul revue on Sunday. But in the end, the weekend belongs to Radiohead.

BECK - Modern Guilt - Preview

Beck's new album is shaping up to be very interesting. Produced by Danger Mouse, Modern Guilt finds Beck in a more serene mood than on recent albums The Information and Guero. The first leaked tracks have a moody and kind of hallucinatory feel to them. You can preview the three tracks at the links below, including the collaboration with Cat Power, though to me she sounds muted and hardly there. Also, check out the video preview of the album, which includes the title track as well.

Modern Guilt is released July 8th.

BECK - Modern Guilt

Beck's Modern Guilt will hit stores in the US on July 8th. The album was produced by Danger Mouse and features Cat Power on the track "Walls". It's been said that the disc is fairly short, clocking in at just thirty minutes, but I have a feeling this is going to be a great Beck record. You can take a listen to the track "Chemtrails" here.

BECK - 'Timebomb'

I know everyone likes to think that BECK is passee at this point, but what the hell! His new one-off single 'Timebomb' is so great. Let's say we lump Mr. Hansen in with the mainstream majority of radio artists making music these days and this song seems like a diamond in the rough. As far as I can tell, the track does not come from a forthcoming album, soundtrack, compilation or anything, just available as a single for download on iTunes. Do it now. This is 2007 pop at its finest. Now rip me to shreds, Beck haters.
