New LIARS Video - Scissor

I love Liars, but I'm really not feeling their latest single "Scissor". That said, this new video for the track is really, really good. The new album Sisterworld, which I am still very much looking forward to, is due March 9th on Mute Records.

Outside Lands Fest Kicks Off in San Francisco

The inaugural Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival gets underway Friday, boasting a very herb-friendly lineup and seemingly tailor-made for its location at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Radiohead and Beck headline the first night, which also includes The Black Keys, Cold War Kids, and Black Mountain. Then things get really "herbal" over the next couple of days. I mean, Tom Petty, Jack Johnson, and Ben Harper? Expect a lot of mandles, drum circles, and cannabis clouds. But some highlights are indeed tucked in between the tye-died lines. Liars will bring their apocalyptic madness on Saturday, while Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings will blow minds with their stunning soul revue on Sunday. But in the end, the weekend belongs to Radiohead.

LIARS have just released their fourth full length on Mute Records, a self-titled transitionary record that perfectly blends the varying directions of the first three albums to create a solid, dirty psych-rock opus.

The lead-off track (and first single) 'Plaster Casts of Everything' pulls you in right away, a driving horror-show anthem of desperate love. "I wanna run away, I wanna bring you too"...this is like Bonnie & Clyde via David Lynch. 'Houseclouds' comes damn close to sounding like a Beck song with its funky backbeat and high-pitched chorus. 'What Would They Know' is a favorite of mine, calling to mind acid-tinged surf rock of the 60's. 'Cycle Time' is like Led Zeppelin on crack. But the most notable influence comes on the back to back tracks 'Freak Out' and 'Pure Unevil', an unmistakable ode to The Jesus & Mary Chain.

I love the direction Liars are heading in. It's almost like they've been spending a lot of time listening to the Nuggets compilations and watching acid films of the late 60's/early 70's like The Trip or Psych-Out.
