Friday the 13th FIXED - KLAXONS & BONDE DO ROLE

Call it a match made in mish-mash heaven. The stage at Studio B will be quite eclectic tomorrow night when Brit psychedelic sensations KLAXONS are preceded by Brazilian baile-funk faves BONDE DO ROLE. With SURKIN sharing the decks with the always amazing resident DJ's JDH & DAVE P, this is sure to be another memorable night in Greenpoint.

Save Coney Island

Last Sunday Coney Island opened for what is planned to be its last season before the majority of the historical boardwalk is torn down to build a new Times Square-like attraction, complete with high-rise condos and a mall. Sign the petition to save Coney Island and don't forget to spread the word.

DE NOVO DAHL @ Piano's, NYC

Just two short weeks after discovering DE NOVO DAHL, I had the wonderful privilege to see them take the stage at Piano's in the Lower East Side last night. And no, they were not wearing the much hyped about striped suits, but rather equally endearing rhinestone cowboy suits. These guys are just so much damn fun, it would be impossible not to have a good time at their show. If you missed them in New York, you're in luck! Not only are they playing again tonight at Piano's, but they're returning to Brooklyn on 4/20 at the Luna Lounge.

Word has it that DE NOVO DAHL are working on a new album, to be released on Roadrunner in the near future. In the meantime, buy their awesome double album "Cats & Kittens" through Theory 8 Music, or for a quick fix Go Here.

One to Watch: SAVE MACAULAY The Band

I normally don't write much about singer/songwriter types, but last night I stumbled across an amazing female singer who goes by the name of SAVE MACAULAY The Band. A little bit country, a little bit indie, whatever you wanna call her, this girl from Tennessee has a remarkable voice. Check out the duet ballad "Heart of This Town" for a good example.

I spoke to SAVE MACAULAY briefly and she said that she was fleshing out "the band" part. Hopefully we can look forward to a release on Theory 8 sometime in the near future.

IAMX @ The Mercury Lounge, NYC

Donned in a sparkling top hat, Chris Corner embodied what could have been a scene from the film "Velvet Goldmine" when he took the stage with his band IAMX at The Mercury Lounge last night. Drawing inspiration from a number of sources, particularly David Bowie, 70's glam, and German cabaret, Corner's stage antics nearly overshadow his powerful voice. Nearly.

Corner, also a founding member and lead singer of SNEAKERPIMPS, has a natural stage presence, one of true rock star. Whether it be strutting the stage in quick and spastic motions or operatically howling over the bombastic rocktronics, IAMX certainly encompasses his talents.

Check out some of IAMX's best songs here.

Triple Threat at FIXED Party

Norwegian band DATAROCK stole the show at Studio B last night, easily outperforming a rather tense version of THE PRESETS. The beat-heavy night got started with Swedish synth trio LO-FI-FNK, which I just discovered is pronounced funk not fink as some might have thought. LO-FI-FNK was fun, especially when a drunk (and seemingly obsessed fan) jumped onto the stage and danced behind the band during the song "Heartache", oblivious to the ironic lyrics being sung..."Would you just get out of my face, you're crashing the party". It was a gas.
DATAROCK took the stage shortly after, fully clad in their infamous hooded red track suits. I had no idea folks were so familiar with these guys. The crowd was so into it, dancing wildly and singing along to most of the songs. In fact, at one point three guys rushed the stage, creating quite an onstage scuffle. Synthesizers flew. Cuss words flew. Security pounced. It got crazy for a minute. But DATAROCK didn't hold a grudge and soon the party resumed, bigger than ever. When the guys took to their most popular song, "Fa-Fa-Fa", the crowd erupted into a celebratory dance party. Fun was had by all. THE PRESETS seemed unusually tense, particularly before their set, hovering over the sound mixer for a good 20 minutes. Once onstage, they lacked the energy of previous shows. In fact, I don't think I saw the drummer smile even once throughout the entire set. But still, THE PRESETS's huge electro sound won the crowd over, continuing the party into the wee hours of the night.

The unsung heroes of the night were DJ's JDH and DAVE P, lacing each set together with solid electro jams. I absolutely love that they started the night off with PRIMAL SCREAM's early classic "Come Together". Perfect.

YACHT - "See A Penny (Pick It Up)"

Jona Bechtolt is somewhat of a genius. Not only is he one half of indie-electro duo THE BLOW, but come May, his other band YACHT will release their third album, "I Believe In You, Your Magic Is Real". If that alone weren't enough to keep him busy, he has also developed an electro-pop opera and has collaborated with a handful of great artists such as PANTHER and DAVENDRA BANHART.

For even more background on the prolific Jona Bechtolt, read his bio here.
