THE JUAN MACLEAN - The Future Will Come

The Juan Maclean will finally release their sophomore LP The Future Will Come via DFA on April 14th. The disc follows up the 2005 debut Less Than Human, a fantastic dance-electro album that deserves repeated listens.

On the new LP, Juan Maclean recruits vocalist Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem, as well as synth duo Holy Ghost! and !!! drummer Jerry Fuchs. Based on these facts, I'm thinking this is gonna be one hot and sweaty opus of a dance record. A single release for "One Day" is coming soon with a new video as well.

TELEPATHE

Brooklyn's Telepathe are prepping the release of their debut full-length, Dance Mother. The album is being recorded with Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio and will feature contributions Kyp Malone (TVOTR) and Shannon Funchess (of !!!). According to a press release, "Access to Sitek's vintage synthesizer collection, combined with deep electronic sub-bass lines influenced by hours of listening to dub-step, gave the duo's homemade music making a new sonic purity and gave them the confidence and the stylistic singularity to transcend genres."

Telepathe have been on the road with Diplo on the Mad Decent Tour, also featuring Boy 8-Bit and Abe Vigoda. Dance Mother isn't out until February 17th, but check out "Chrome's On It" from the recent EP of the same name.

New !!! Video - 'Yadnus'

Warp Records recently released 'Yadnus' as a digital single, taken from !!!'s most recent album "Myth Takes". The release features remixes by Scottie B, DJ Kaos, Emperor Machine, and Still Going, as well as a remix of previous single 'Must Be the Moon'. This provides good reason to go back and listen to the "Myth Takes" album, a really solid effort that I haven't listened to in awhile. At one point last spring I had 'Heart of Hearts' in every playlist I made. Such a great track.

Countdown to Coachella part 3 - 9 Days...

These are perhaps the four biggest reasons why I wanted to go to Coachella this year...and they're all on the same day!


LCD SOUNDSYSTEM
Every single time I've tried to see James Murphy live I always just miss the boat. The recent string of dates in NYC have all seemed to sell out instantaneously. Back at Coachella 2004, I diligently tried to convince my gang to catch one of their earliest performances, but no one knew who the hell they were so we saw someone else instead. From what I hear, LCD Soundsystem is always good for an unparalleled live show, creating a sort of hypnotic dance explosion. By contrast, check out this old favorite of mine, "Tired" - an ode to James Murphy's love of post-punk.

HOT CHIP
I'm finally seeing Hot Chip for the first time this Friday at Webster Hall and I'm ecstatic about it. This will be the one event that makes me feel that all is not lost by missing Coachella this year. Check out this new Hot Chip track, "My Piano".

THE RAPTURE
So maybe I wouldn't have caught The Rapture at Coachella this year, as I've seen them a few times now. But they always put on a solid show with a great light spectacle. COACHELLA RUMORS

With MSTRKRFT, HOT CHIP, !!!, and LCD SOUNDSYSTEM already confirmed (via various sources), Coachella 2007 is looking to be one hell of a party this year. Also heavily rumored to be on the bill are THE RAPTURE, BRAZILIAN GIRLS, GIRL TALK, CSS, BLONDE REDHEAD, GRIZZLY BEAR, THE ARCADE FIRE and many more.

Unfortunately, I will most likely not be going to Coachella this year, but I've been so many times it would feel weird not to take part in the obsessive rumor-mill that has become a yearly ritual. It's the most fun!

The official Coachella line-up is widely speculated to be announced around February 1st (the same day The Sky Report moves to NYC).

New Music 2007 - !!!

"Myth Takes", the third full-length album from Brooklyn-based dancepunk outfit !!! (Chk-Chk-Chk), will see its release on March 4th, 2007. Anyone who's ever seen !!! play live knows that these boys know how to put on a non-stop, sticky, sweaty dance party.

The band suffered a tragic event back in December 2005, when their original drummer was struck and killed by a car. Though he was no longer a member of the band, it will be interesting to see what effect the tragedy has had on !!!'s sound.
